Engineering & System WOrk
My work in electronic systems focuses on the hands-on engineering behind audio technology — from installing and configuring modular synthesizers in professional studio environments to building and modifying analog circuits for synths and guitar pedals. This page highlights projects that merge creative sound exploration with precise technical execution.
MTU Recording Studio – Modular System Integration
Assisted with the integration of a Eurorack modular synthesizer system into Michigan Tech’s campus recording studio. Focused on clean signal routing, safe power delivery, and an intuitive layout to support both experimental sound design and hands-on instruction.
Soldered connections and module headers to ensure safe operation and clean signal flow
Configured modules and signal paths during system setup, addressing routing and compatibility issues
Troubleshot technical problems related to power distribution and module communication
Collaborated with faculty and peers to design a layout optimized for creative use and teaching
DIY Audio Hardware Builds – Synth Modules & Effects Pedals
Designed and built analog audio hardware from scratch, including hand-assembled synthesizer modules and custom guitar pedals. Prioritized clean signal flow, musical expressiveness, and durable construction for both performance and studio integration.
Hand-built Eurorack-format VCO and VCF modules from schematics, including component selection, circuit layout, and calibration
Assembled output and noise generator modules from MTU-provided circuit kits (pictured to the top right) for integration into the campus modular system
Soldered PCBs, debugged signal paths, and ensured stable power and audio performance
Tuned oscillators and filters for accurate pitch tracking and expressive tonal shaping
Built custom fuzz, delay, and distortion pedals using hand-wired circuits and modified designs
Integrated enclosures, jacks, and footswitches for rugged, gig-ready pedal builds
Documented circuit designs and build processes for future mods and technical reference
DIY Analog Drum Voice Module – (In Progress - Summer 2025)
Currently developing a fully analog drum voice module for Eurorack systems, aimed at producing original percussion sounds that break away from conventional 808-style voices. The circuit features user-adjustable parameters like pitch, decay, and tone, with a focus on expressive, performance-ready sound design.
Key Goals:
Design and prototype custom analog drum voice circuits
Test, revise, and solder final PCB layouts
Build a Eurorack-compatible front panel and mount
Record a performance demo with modular and DAW integration
