Engineering & Hardware Work
My work in electronic systems focuses on the hands-on engineering behind audio technology — from installing and configuring modular synthesizers in professional studio environments to building and modifying analog circuits for synths and guitar pedals. This page highlights projects that merge creative sound exploration with precise technical execution.
3.1 Speaker System - Design & Integration
Designed and built a full 3.1 loudspeaker system including left, right, center, and a 15” subwoofer for extended low-frequency performance. Modeled enclosure volumes, port tuning, and system response, then constructed and integrated the system with DSP-based crossover, amplification, and acoustic tuning. Focused on achieving accurate, full-range playback through careful design, measurement, and system calibration.
Designed and modeled ported enclosures for LCR speakers and a slot-ported 15” subwoofer, optimizing internal volume, tuning frequency, and air velocity
Constructed MDF cabinets with internal bracing, acoustic insulation, and flush-mounted drivers for structural integrity and reduced resonance
Integrated multi-channel amplification and DSP, implementing crossover design, time alignment, and system-level tuning
Performed acoustic measurement and calibration using reference microphones, sine sweeps, and SPL analysis to refine system response
Troubleshot and refined system performance, addressing real-world issues such as room interaction, phase alignment, and frequency balance
MTU Recording Studio - Modular System Integration
Led the setup and integration of a Eurorack modular synthesizer system for Michigan Tech’s campus recording studio as part of a practicum-based engineering project. Focused on transforming partially assembled modules into a fully functional, reliable, and user-ready system for student use. Work emphasized signal integrity, power stability, and intuitive system layout to support both creative exploration and instructional use.
Assembled and soldered modular synthesizer kits, ensuring reliable electrical connections and long-term system stability
Designed and implemented system-level signal routing, enabling a cohesive and playable modular workflow for users
Configured power distribution and module integration, addressing compatibility and stability across the system
Troubleshot and resolved technical issues related to signal flow, power delivery, and module behavior
Optimized system layout for usability, supporting both educational environments and creative sound design
DIY Audio Hardware Builds – Synth Modules & Effects Pedals
Designed and built analog audio hardware from scratch, including hand-assembled synthesizer modules and custom guitar pedals. Prioritized clean signal flow, musical expressiveness, and durable construction for both performance and studio integration.
Hand-built Eurorack-format VCO and VCF modules from schematics, including component selection, circuit layout, and calibration
Assembled output and noise generator modules from MTU-provided circuit kits (pictured to the top right) for integration into the campus modular system
Soldered PCBs, debugged signal paths, and ensured stable power and audio performance
Tuned oscillators and filters for accurate pitch tracking and expressive tonal shaping
Built custom fuzz, delay, and distortion pedals using hand-wired circuits and modified designs
Integrated enclosures, jacks, and footswitches for rugged, gig-ready pedal builds
Documented circuit designs and build processes for future mods and technical reference
DIY Analog Drum Voice Module – (In Progress - Summer 2025)
Currently developing a fully analog drum voice module for Eurorack systems, aimed at producing original percussion sounds that break away from conventional 808-style voices. The circuit features user-adjustable parameters like pitch, decay, and tone, with a focus on expressive, performance-ready sound design.
Key Goals:
Design and prototype custom analog drum voice circuits
Test, revise, and solder final PCB layouts
Build a Eurorack-compatible front panel and mount
Record a performance demo with modular and DAW integration
